Grateful Reflection

Greetings friends,

I’ve been enjoying a quiet week here at the studio and on the marsh. A little down time so to speak before family begins coming home and the business of a new season begins. For me this looks like sticking around the farm, waking up with my coffee, morning writing, making soup, walking, and painting a large commission piece on the easel which I’m just about to wrap up! Yay!

The marsh is still and settling in before winter. Even the birds have gone or are going quiet. The gift of silence and space has given me much needed reflection time and what I felt compelled to share with you was a magical experience I had this summer painting a commission of this iconic boathouse in the deep woods of Wisconsin. I truly think this will be one of those moments I reflect fondly on the rest of my life. Very grateful for my dear friends Doug and Diane who helped lodge my canoe into this spot so I didn’t float away!

There was only one way to get the vantage point I was after and it was to sit on the river itself, one with the river! As the river flowed past me, I stayed in place lodged in fallen debris. It was a brilliant solution to stay still on a moving river while I painted!

One of several plein air color studies I painted as both information and inspiration for my larger final studio piece. And the large 24x24 studio piece (shown at top) has been installed in the collectors home and is being cherished.
